Friday, February 19, 2010 Picks: (Home team in caps)
Hmmm, another sub par night on the picks last night. I’ve had a tough time getting back into the New York groove this week but hopefully I can get the ball rolling for the weekend. After last weekend’s debacle, it can only go up. While last night was a quiet night on the sports front, tonight there’s a ton of games on the hardwood which means plenty of opportunity to get your foot in the door. Get your Friday game face on as it’s time to do some raking.
Raptors (-2) over NETS
Don’t understand this spread whatsoever. The Nets have played half decent lately which gives NJ fans something to smile about for once but the Raps have played their best ball of the season recently. The Raps may be terrible on the road but NJ are just terrible overall. This spread is an absolute gift so jump all over it and go with the Dino’s for the cover.
Spurs (-3) over 76ERS
Again, another spread that doesn’t make sense to me. Spurs have won 2 straight while the 76ers have lost 2 straight coming into this one. The Spurs have been the much better team this year and they took the last meeting between the two teams. Spurs here hands down.
Nuggets (-5.5) over WIZARD
The Nuggets played last night which would seem to favor the Wiz but Denver got a huge win as they ended the Cavs 13 game winning streak. The Wiz are having a rough year and there’s no doubting that the Nuggets are a much, much better team. I don’t think Denver will have much trouble covering this spread.
Mavericks (+6.5) over MAGIC
The Mavs have been hit and miss lately but this spread is just too wide. The Magic have played great this season on home court but the Mavs have also put together an impressive road record on the year. The Mavs took the last meeting and they are coming off a big win over the Suns so take the healthy dose of points and go with the Mavs for the road cover.
HORNETS (-4) over Pacers
Today’s trend is officially ‘WTF is up with this spread’. Again, I’m bewildered here. The Pacers roll into New Orleans on a 3 game losing streak and are downright terrible on the road this season. Meanwhile, the Hornets have played great at home this year. Despite recent struggles in general recently, I can’t see how the Hornets don’t cover this.
Jazz (-6.5) over WARRIORS
One of the hottest teams in the league meets one of the coldest. The Warriors are having a rough year and are 2-8 in their past 10. On the other hand, the Jazz have over double the wins that GS has and they have gone 9-1 in their past 10. Go with the numbers and take the Jazz for what should be an easy Friday night cover.
